Global Glimpse: Remembering Hind Rajab.

On January 29th, 2024, Hind Rajab was brutally murdered alongside her family by IDF soldiers in an act of genocidal violence.

In an attempt to escape the Israeli invasion in Tel al-Hawa, Gaza City, an IDF unit opened fire in their car. Hind’s cousin urgently called the Palestinian Red Cross Society (PRCS), stating an Israeli tank was approaching them. She and the rest of her family were killed, ultimately leaving Hind injured and alone.

PCRS stayed on the line with Hind, attempting to send paramedics in order to rescue her. Paramedics Yusuf al-Zeino and Ahmed al-Madhoun rushed to Hind’s location, only for them to be never heard from again. Hind’s body, along with the missing paramedics were discovered two weeks after the attack. An investigation by Forensic Architecture discovered 355 bullets were fired at the children and family inside the vehicle.

Hind’s death is one of the thousands of Palestinian who are slain in silence each day by Israeli soldiers. Her death sparked a global outcry that criticized the genocidal atrocities committed by Israel.

Her voice continues to echo around the world and in the media. Kaouther Ben Hania, a two time Oscar nominee and filmmaker, set out to create “The Voice of Hind Rajab”. Viewed from the perspective of the volunteers answering Hind’s phone call at the center, the film recounts the events of her murder.

Hind would’ve been seven-years-old today, yet her story continues to live on. To remember Hind is to remember the deaths of thousands of innocent Palestinian children.

So preserve her voice and let it be a call to action. Let her story be the one to carry the names and stories of Palestinian children we’ll never know, but we will fight to protect.
